Once they're on the trail of Team Rocket, it becomes apparent that the trio are a little more prepared than usual, equipping their balloon to deal with Ash's usual tactics. The kid runs into Ash and co., who decide to help him recover Magby. They manage to steal one kid's Magby, and that kid turns out to be a relative of the Sinnoh Elite Four member, Bertha. In the episode, Jessie, James, and Meowth are pulling another of their schemes, setting up a fake daycare that promises to evolve any Pokémon left there in just a few hours. In the episode "An Elite Coverup!" from the Sinnoh era, it's revealed that Team Rocket has managed to do exactly that. However, there's no reason that Pokémon armor that's designed to enhance their abilities couldn't be created, similar to a powered exoskeleton that a person might wear when moving heavy objects. Given how deep and tragic Mewtwo's Pokémon backstory is, this fits. Even in Mewtwo's case, the armor didn't increase its power so much as limit it to a level where it could be controlled, so the armored Mewtwo is actually weaker than Mewtwo would be otherwise. But as it turns out, Team Rocket's experiments with power armor didn't end with Mewtwo's escape, and surprisingly Jessie and James were entrusted with it.Īrmor for Pokémon is an interesting idea that's rarely addressed in the franchise. The Pokémonanime first introduced the legendary Mewtwo decked out in a special power armor suit from Team Rocket, obscuring its identity and adding a mystique that still appeals to fans over 20 years later.
